Wide awake at 6am. Again.

20 May

Technically, before 6. Whatever. Usually, I only get up at the ass crack of dawn during the summer. Maybe my brain has been tricked into thinking that it’s summer because it’s been so damn nice out? Yeah, that’s probably it. Being able to sleep with the windows can aid in that, too. I guess.

Yesterdays weather was just amazing! I didn’t end up going out to work on the garden, because to be honest, I’d had enough dirt. I showered early, and wanted to stay clean, and free of bug spray. ((A decision I now regret…))

I did not spend the day inside, though. I took the camera, and headed out to the yard. What was the first thing I saw?

Mrs. Lovett, stretched out in my corn :\

She’s a big cat, so she’s kind of hard to miss. I was going to go over there and take some pictures of my neat little rows… I was just standing there, staring at her, and then I was telling her to gtfo. Nicely, of course. This was her response:

If she can’t see me, maybe I don’t see her?

She did get up, but only to fall over, and resume her play time. If she doesn’t cut that out, nothing will grow in there. But of course, she doesn’t understand that. Nor is she the only cat that does that, either.

Ahh well. Anyway, I walked around the yard, thinking maybe I’d shoot some more macro. That wasn’t happening. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood.

I was just going to sit in the grass and read Mac a story, when Mike came home from work. He had two of G.’s friends with him. All the girls were in the house, watching youtube videos, and I decided I didn’t want to sit out there by myself. So, I came in, grabbed the mail, and sat on the back deck instead. Not too long later, Mike came back, and said he was taking the kids up to the school.

W. had to mow the lawn, so we stayed home. We took a walk down to the store, and when we got back, he started mowing…and I decided to give Chew a bath. That dog seriously despises being clean. Last summer, I’d given him a bath, and as soon as I said ‘Ok. You’re done, go’, he hopped out of the bath thing, and did this…Apparently, you have to click the link, cause I can’t directly embed my facebook video:

It’s a safe link. Promise.

However, this time when he was done, instead of heading straight to the dirt, he headed straight into the house. It took me a few minutes to coax him back outside…but he finally went :)

I was sitting on the old well, and as usual, no matter where I go to sit, I’m found by cats. It started off with just Jane ((the all gray one)), then the others followed…

my well brings all the cats to the yard, ’cause my well, is better than yours…

The choice to not put on bug spray turned out to be a bad choice. I was getting bit left and right. Bug spray just makes me feel so icky. I gave up fighting the little bastards, and just went in the house. I put my headphones in, and listened to a few songs on Spotify, got bored with that, and went out into the living room to listen to some Bob Marley. ((the comedian, not the singer))

W. finished with the lawn, and came in for dinner, and then we listened to songs for a while. That was our night :)

There was talk yesterday about maybe going over to the lake today. It’s another gorgeous day, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t go. Well, aside from the bugs, that is.

Right now, L. and I are the only ones up…and she’s out in the living room playing Brain Age 2. It’s my turn to make breakfast, but I should totally clean up the kitchen first. I can’t work in a messy room.

So…until, who knows. I have a busy week ahead of me…

Yeah, but the super long blog is in my drafts.

10 May

Thursday. Raining.

No, not raining. It’s goddamn pouring out. And it has been raining since yesterday. The kids softball game that was scheduled for after school today has been cancelled…no surprise there.

I got up early this morning. That’s a lie, sort of. I initially woke up at 2am, then fell back to sleep till 5:30. I laid in bed, dozed off for a bit, woke up again, and freaked cause I didn’t know what time it was. Flew out of bed, and found that it was twenty minutes to 7am. Phew. I went upstairs to wake the kids, but they were already up. They always ask if they’re late…and I always laugh, and ask them that if they were so worried about it, why didn’t they just get up and go check the time? I think secretly, they don’t get up, in the hopes that school was somehow cancelled or something. At the same time though, they don’t want to miss the bus. They’re funny like that.

So, Mike slept in…he was feeling kinda lousy yesterday, and I guess he was up a bunch of times with Mac last nite, too. ((She was complaining of a belly ache, then she had to pee, then she wanted some water…y’know)) I cooked breakfast, and got the kids off to school. And I managed to straighten up the house, too. All in the span of an hour. I must’ve slept good.

Mike woke up at 10am, and Mac got up at around 10:30. He’s on his second cup of coffee, and I’ve already had a pot and a half. O_o I think I’m done though. My last cup wasn’t all that great.

No work today, and nothing much to do around the house, either. I could straighten up my room, and possibly clean out the fridge again…But only for something to do.

I came up with a solution for my garden yesterday, after a suggestion from my Mom. Nothing like not realizing the obvious and then feeling like a complete retard to brighten your day. I was telling my Mum that I hadn’t finished digging yet, and that I’d gone out there on Monday to try and get some done while it was nice out. I told her how the first time the shovel went into the dirt, I hit a rock and said ‘Fuck it’, dropped the shovel, and went back in the house. No, I didn’t quit cause of a rock. I quit because of a rock *and* because of the black flies. Those bugs will be out all month long, and I was wondering how the hell I’d get finished out there without sustaining a bazillion bites in a span of 5 minutes. And my stuff has to be planted like, last week. Granted, I don’t have my seeds yet. ((I will tomorrow…)) Then, my Mum said to me, “Why don’t you just start all your plants in the house…that way, when you *can* get outside, you’ll already have your stuff ready…And your crop won’t come in late.”

:|

Why in the fuck did I not think of that? Oh, because I am incredibly dumb sometimes. That’s why. I’ll plant on Saturday, and have the kids give me a hand. W. is going to be home this weekend ((first time in…oh, forever)) because he’s grounded from going anywhere. ((No explanations…)) That also means that we’ll have movie nite on Saturday, too. It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve had one all together. It used to be a weekly thing, with all of us…I’d let W. stay at a friends house on Friday nite, but I tried to keep him home on Saturday nite…didn’t always work.

I have been seriously lazy since the kids got on the bus this morning. I haven’t done a damn thing…Again, LIES! I walked around for a while with the camera and took some shots of the cats. Here’s a few :)

Mrs. Lovett and her sexy pose :)

The rain still hasn’t lightened up. I went to go check the mail, and while it’s warm out ((which is nice)) I got soaked. And I was only out there for about 2 minutes.

Chews, on Sunday afternoon :) Holy shit, does that dog need his nails clipped. Too bad he tries to kill you if you even attempt to do it, though.

Well, I’m completely out of anything to say. The kids will be home in a few, which is good. Sometimes it bugs me when the house it too quiet :)

Until…this weekend.

Vacation comes to an end…and talking about gardening almost sounds dirty.

22 Apr

Thankfully, 90% of this week was wonderful weather-wise. Lots of sunshine, which meant lots of time outside. On one of the nicest days, Friday, I decided to start digging my garden. ((lol. That kinda sounds dirty…))

Gee, now I’m having a hard time trying to talk about gardening and not make inappropriate comparisons in my head. Anyway…

I had a small one last year, and by small I mean like, 4 feet by 4 feet. A pretty small square. Only because I didn’t really have a place to put it. I mean, it’s not like the yard is small, but there was stuff already in the best spots. Stuff like, oh, the swingset. So, we had thought about clearing out an area down in this clearing ((well, a pretty big area where there’s no trees…there’s long grass and little shrub things…can you tell I’m not an outdoorsy person? I don’t even know what the hell is out there)) I asked Mike the other day when you should start planting, and he said by May first. I’m like ‘oh, well, I’m sure we can get that part down there cleared out in a week, yeah?’ And he goes ‘Shiiiiit. That’s right’. So, we opted to not venture down there.

Instead, we moved the swingset to the other side of the yard. Not a bad idea, as where it had been ((the swingset)) is a spot where the sun shines almost all day long. Now, when I think of a garden, I think it should be big. I don’t always think ahead though. Like, to the amount of work involved. :\

Mike sectioned it off for me, and left for work. I stood there for a few minutes, looking at this big area, knowing I was in for a big job. This was all going to be dug by hand. Well, not by hand, I had a shovel. So I got to work, and about ten minutes later, I noticed that I can’t even dig in a straight line :\ What was supposed to be a rectangle shaped area was more like, shit, I don’t even know what shape you’d call it. But, it wasn’t a rectangle. Or a square. Or a circle. But, it wasn’t entirely my fault: there is a couple of trees out there, and I had to go around the roots, so that screwed up my straight line…I didn’t finish on Friday, but I was planning to finish yesterday. Mike and I headed out there, and then about 2 minutes later, it started raining. We came back in the house and it poured like a mother. It finally stopped around noontime, and it wasn’t sunny out, but it wasn’t cold or anything, either. We went back out, and Mike took a good look at it and started giving me shit cause the lines weren’t straight, and how it seemed a lot bigger than how he’d marked it the day before. I just stood there with a ‘wtf, are you serious?’ look. I asked him what the problem was and he was like ‘it’s supposed to be rectangular’. I was like ‘Says who?’ He’s like ‘duh. Everyone.’ o_O I had no response except for ‘shut up’, so he said ‘Whatever. It’s your garden.’

We had planned on finishing it today, but it seems cold, and it was pouring just before I got out of bed. I don’t think I’ll dig today, since it’ll just be mud, but if it’s not freezing out, I should go at least clean up what I have dug.

Since the kids go back to school tomorrow, it’s back to being on a schedule today. I love vacations, but while this one was a productive one, it was by far, not the greatest one. ((At the beginning of the week, I scraped wallpaper off a couple walls in the office. If I had stuck to it, I could of gotten it done. ((It’s a small office)) But, I hit a snag when one of the walls proved super difficult: The wallpaper doesn’t want to come off. Like, at all.

With the weather being as nice as it was, I’d normally of taken the opportunity to use my camera more often. But, not being able to use my own computer, deterred me. I did shoot a bit, but I can’t work on them, not really. I have no programs on this Mac except for Acorn, which is pretty useless to me. I miss photoshop. I did manage to get a trial of Lightroom on here, but I don’t have all my presets :\

Ah well. I guess I’ll appreciate my computer even more when I finally get to use it again.

Oh! We had to go out the other day, and I found a copy of the magazine my kiddos are in! I didn’t buy it then and there, but I at least wanted to see the picture. I found it, and it was so cool to me to see *my* kids in a magazine! ((To my knowledge, that’s never happened before! )) As soon as I get a copy, I’ll get the picture here :)

I feel like I’ve been awake forever ((and I think I have…since I was up at like 3am)), and it’s only 7:15. All the girls are sleeping, and so is Mike…W. went to a friends house yesterday ((surprise, surprise)) so he’s not home…

Also…W.’s friend from up the street, has a dog. I don’t know the breed, but he’s HUGE! And super, super sweet :) Well, he comes to our house sometimes ((the dog)) and occasionally, Chews is outside. Now, my dog isn’t the friendliest dog in the world. He does bite ((not us, he adores us)), and I don’t trust him outside too long, because I don’t want him to chase anyone if they happen to be walking or something. I wouldn’t put it past him to do that sort of thing. I was told a long time ago ((when Chew was still my Mum’s dog, that he used to live with other dogs…I had never seen him with one, but I knew enough of his behavior to assume that if he got around another dog, he’s just bite it. I was wrong. He loves our neighbors dog! The big dog is Remy, and when he comes down, I’ll be all ‘Hey, Chews! Guess what? Remy is here!’, and it’s like Chew knows what the hell I’m saying cause he barks like crazy and will go to each and every window till he sees their dog.

Now, I don’t mind one bit when Remy is here. He’s very, very sweet. My girls love him, he doesn’t go after my cats, and Chew has a blast with him. Because he wanders though, his owners just got him a shock collar. ((Which I think is a good idea…there’s so many log trucks that go by…)) He was just outfitted with it the other day…He turned up in the yard yesterday though. Chew was all excited, but I know the dog isn’t really supposed to be down here now, so I didn’t let him out to play, which pissed off Chew.

Annnnyway…my coffee has gone cold now, so I should fix that.

Until later this week…
